Server Administrator II

Location: Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands

  • Maintains operational status of all mission critical systems running Windows Server 2012 and Red Hat Linux 6.
  • Performs patch management on Windows 7, Windows 2012 and RHEL Linux systems.
  • Maintains hardware lifecycle by deploying replacement systems in a timely fashion.
  • Supports real time reactive computing systems.
  • Performs server and application monitoring on a daily basis.
  • Performs root cause analysis and resolution for hardware and software issues.
  • Works closely with Software and System Engineers to evaluate and improve application performance.
  • Maintains flexible schedule to meet mission requirements.
  • Performs project studies and coordinates resources to execute project milestones.  
  • Ensures system security by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate enterprise solutions in accordance with Army regulations (AR 25-2).
  • Performs Operating System upgrades as required.
  • Implements upgrades for site-wide critical services.
  • Creates and maintains user accounts.
  • Archives and examines audit logs, performs network scans, and generates Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) checklists to verify compliance.
  • Assists network personnel as necessary to troubleshoot and resolve application issues.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrated ability working with Group Policy, Active Directory.
  • Demonstrated ability securing systems using Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) STIGs.
  • Willingness and ability to maintain a flexible schedule to meet mission requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform operating system upgrades including the migration of existing applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform system administration in a high availability, 24x7 production environment.
  • Proficiency with BASH, VBScript and Powershell.
  • Ability to troubleshoot using system monitoring tools.
  • Proficiency with Solarwinds, RHEL, VMware, Vsphere.
  • Ability to remotely troubleshoot problems across a Wide Area Network (WAN).
  • Strong knowledge of Open Source software.
  • Demonstrated ability creating and maintaining user accounts effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability archiving and examining audit logs, performing network scans, and generating system documentation effectively.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma program tools and methodologies and/or Six Sigma Certification.       
  • 4 years of system administration experience or related field with a bachelor's degree.
  • 8 years of system administration experience or related field in lieu of degree.   
  • 8 years server and/or system administration experience with a related bachelor's degree.
  • Experience applying DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides.
  • Experience working with Storage Area Network (SAN) environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
  • In lieu of bachelor's degree; 4 additional years of experience in server administration.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification or the ability to obtain certification prior to employment.
  • Valid Computing Environment certification or the ability to obtain certification prior to employment.
  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline and 8 years of experience.
  • Microsoft certified.
  • CompTIA Linux+ certification or LPIC-1 certification.
  • Common Access Card (CAC) required to perform job duties.
  • This position is unaccompanied.
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Active US DoD Secret Clearance required.
  • Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Kwajalein Atoll.
  • Traveling to Kwajalein Atoll, you are required to have a valid passport in your possession prior to relocation. You must maintain a current passport during your stay on Kwajalein Atoll.
