Optics Technician I

Location: Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Operate and maintain RTS instrumentation optics systems and high-speed video cameras.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on assigned equipment in accordance with applicable system technical orders and other appropriate technical documentation.
  • Frequently performs job duties at remote sites in tropical environment.
  • Operate required Test Measurement Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) in the maintenance and evaluation of assigned hardware.
  • Complete and maintain logs, forms, and records.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
JOB SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
Required: 
  • Proficient using standard test equipment.
  • Willingness and physical ability to carry more than 51 pounds and work in a tropical environment.
  • Willingness and physical ability to travel by boat, helicopter, or aircraft to work at remote sites with limited facilities.
  • Willingness and physical ability to climb towers up to 60 feet.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of telescopes, cameras and optical systems.
Desired: 
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma program tools and methodologies and/or Six Sigma Certification.
  • Demonstrated skill in field maintenance of data collection systems and tracking systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively perform mechanical and electrical assembly, wiring, soldering repair, and checkout on a variety of electronic components subassemblies, panels, and chassis.
  • Demonstrated skill in operation & maintenance of optical tracking mounts; telescopes; CCD, CMOS, IR sensors and Linux operating system.
  • Demonstrated skill with Adobe Photoshop or other photo and video editing software.
  • Fiber optics maintenance and testing.  
EXPERIENCE (Years):
Required: 
  • 0 years of experience with field maintenance, tracking system maintenance, electronics, optical systems and/or software development.
Desired:
  • 3 years of experience with field maintenance of data collection systems and tracking systems, including troubleshooting to component level.
EDUCATION:
Required: 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
Desired: 
  • Associates degree in Electronics Technology or related.  
OTHER SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Common Access Card(CAC) required to perform job duties
  • This position is unaccompanied.
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • U.S. DoD Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain one is required.
  • Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Kwajalein Atoll.
  • Traveling to Kwajalein Atoll, you are required to have a valid passport in your possession prior to relocation.
  • You must maintain a current passport during your stay on Kwajalein Atoll.
