Plant Technician III

Location: Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supports Telephone Systems staff in the installation, maintenance, testing and termination of copper and fiber systems.
  • Leads installation teams.
  • Assures that safe practices are always observed.
  • Occasionally assists the Communication Engineering Department with projects and surveys.
  • Works in confined spaces and travel to other sites within the Atoll.
  • Operates vehicles including cable pulling equipment, vans and trucks.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.  
JOB SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
Required: 
  • Proficient with the industries latest test equipment and standard practices to support voice, video and data.
  • Ability to perform cutovers and upgrades, update drawings and circuit diagrams.
  • Demonstrated ability installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing underground copper and fiber optic cable systems. 
  • Willingness and ability to work in confined spaces and travel to other sites within the Atoll.  
  • Demonstrated ability to operate vehicles including cable pulling equipment, vans and trucks.
Desired: 
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma program tools and methodologies and/or Six Sigma Certification.
  • Basic computer skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and AutoCAD.  
EXPERIENCE (Years):
Required: 
  • 6 years of experience as a telephone cable splicer, 1 year of which must be at a journeyman level.
  • 2 additional years of experience of fiber optic installation and maintenance experience.   
Desired: 
  • 8 years of experience as a telephone cable splicer.
EDUCATION:
Required: 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
Desired: 
  • Military Communications or Technical College certificates.
  • Fiber Optics certification or course completion.
OTHER SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Common Access Card (CAC) required to perform job duties.
  • This position is unaccompanied.
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • US DoD Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain one is required.
  • Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Kwajalein Atoll.
  • Traveling to Kwajalein Atoll, you are required to have a valid passport in your possession prior to relocation. You must maintain a current passport during your stay on Kwajalein Atoll.
