Hardware Engineer III

Location: Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinates and directs antenna mechanical maintenance, repairs, trouble shooting, inspections and modifications to all antenna subsystems; to include but not limited to large motors & generators, gears, gear reducers, bearings, brakes, crane rails, pumps and rotary joints.
  • Observes, tests, and evaluates complex radar mechanical systems to diagnose and repair component failures.
  • Performs design and structural analysis work.
  • Occasionally performs work in a tropical environment and at heights up to 150 feet.
  • Generates integration plans, work instructions, alignment procedures, engineering drawings, and job safety analysis.
  • Provides technical documentation on projects.
  • Works with vendors and procurement groups to obtain critical parts.
  • Directs a team of up to 15 workers to accomplish maintenance and modification tasks.
  • Defines statements of work for projects that will be subcontracted to external sources.
  • Performs occasional shift work to support operational tasking.
  • Adheres to and promotes Company safety policies, procedures and programs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
JOB SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
Required: 
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively perform mechanical evaluation of & design complex mechanical systems such as gear boxes, large brake systems and/or large electric motors/generators.
  • Ability to lead large integration projects and provide work direction, training and mentoring to other.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and prioritize critical maintenance tasks to ensure the antenna is operating at peak performance.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively utilize 2D and 3D Computer Aided Design software (i.e. SolidWorks and AutoCAD).
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively direct tradesmen of various disciplines.
  • Willingness and physical ability to work in a tropical environment at heights up to 150 feet.
  • Willingness and physical ability to carry equipment weighing 50 lbs.
  • Willingness and ability to perform occasional shift work to support operational tasking.
  • Microsoft Office Suite Proficient: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
Desired: 
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma program tools and methodologies and/or Six Sigma Certification.
  • Understanding of high voltage safety and Radio Frequency (RF) safety.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
  • Proficiency in the use of a Theodolite or transit for alignment purposes. 
  • Allen Bradley monitoring systems. 
  • Metallurgy and the latest technology in corrosion control.
  • Finite Element Analysis. 
  • Fabrication, machining and welding.
  • Familiarity with KEAMS purchasing and work order system.  
EXPERIENCE (Years):
Required: 
  • 5 years of mechanical engineering experience working on large electro-mechanical systems and/or large power generators, and a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Or 3 years of mechanical engineering experience working on large electro-mechanical systems and/or large power generators, and a Master's Degree in Engineering or related discipline.   
Desired: 
  • 10+ years mechanical engineering experience or equivalent field experience working on large electro-mechanical systems and/or large power generators.
  • Project management experience.
EDUCATION:
Required: 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related discipline and 5 years of mechanical field experience, working on large electro-mechanical systems and/or large power generators.
  • Or Master's Degree in Engineering or related discipline and 3 years of mechanical field experience, working on large electro-mechanical systems and/or large power generators.     
OTHER SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Common Access Card (CAC) required to perform job duties.
  • This position is accompanied.
  • US Citizen is required.
  • US DoD Secret clearance or the ability to obtain one is required.
  • Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Kwajalein Atoll.
  • Traveling to Kwajalein Atoll, you and your dependents are required to have a valid passport in your possession prior to relocation. You and your dependents must maintain a current passport during your stay on Kwajalein Atoll.
