Hardware Engineer II

  • Responsible for the site RF Safety program located at United States Army Garrison Kwajalein Atoll and Reagan Test Site.
  • Reviews new development, improvement and implementation of RF transmitting equipment for compliance with Safety requirements.  This will include assisting with standard engineering analysis in the implementation of system upgrades and modifications across the range.
  • Ensures the radiation monitoring program provides for safe operations.  
  • Ensures the work force is trained in the RF Safety procedures.  This involves classroom training, creating online training, and tracking compliance.
  • Performs RF Safety surveys of RF Radars and other emitters.
  • Provides mission preparation and support when required to include land-based Range Safety as well as the mobile Range Safety ship. This includes assisting with RF transmitter testing and moving and transport of Range Safety equipment.
  • Other activities may include aspects of RF Safety, Spectrum Management, Security, and facilities.
  • Performs other engineering duties as required or assigned.
  • Knowledge of Radars, RF and antenna theory, electronic circuits.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively perform some or all of the following: Radar theory and operations, antenna characteristics and calculations, RF link analysis, field strength calculations.
  • Ability to teach and train technical and non-technical personnel.   
  • Familiar with standard engineering concepts, practices and procedures within the RF Safety field.
  • Strong organizational and communication ability; proficient in oral and written communications including presentation skills and the ability to interface effectively with team members, management, and customers in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Competent in the use of various RF test equipment.
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to organize and maintain large volumes of documentation.
  • Willingness and physically able to travel via boat, helicopter, and airplane to other islands within the atoll.
  • Willingness and ability to sail aboard the KMRSS Worthy in a deep sea environment for extended periods.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma program tools and methodologies and/or Six Sigma Certification.
  • Knowledge and experience in the following standards and procedures: IEEE standard C95.1, DoD instruction 6055.11.
  • Familiarity with Spectrum XXI, DD1494, JF-12.
  • Skilled with Matlab.  
  • 5+ years broad RF experience in fields such as RF engineering, Radars, or related.   
  • 8+ years experience working in RF Safety engineering and oversight.
  • Experience working in a flight safety capacity at a missile range.
  • Experience working on a Test Range.
  • Spectrum Management experience. 
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Master of Science in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Common Access Card (CAC) required to perform job duties.
  • This position is unaccompanied.
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Active US DoD Secret clearance is required.
  • Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Kwajalein Atoll.
  • Traveling to Kwajalein Atoll, you are required to have a valid passport in your possession prior to relocation. You must maintain a current passport during your stay on Kwajalein Atoll.
