Project Safety Lead I

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Works both independently and with supervision to implement the Kwajalein Range Services (KRS) Safety and Occupational Health Plan (SOHP) for projects and operating facilities; may plan and/or conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of safety compliance, techniques, control procedures, and criteria.
  • Contributes to the implementation of the SOHP, accident prevention programs, recognition, evaluation, and control of hazardous activities and/or conditions.
  • Supports safety related training programs..
  • As assigned, maintains working relationships with Logistics, Community, and Mission Operations personnel to monitor work practices to ensure compliance with the SOHP, KRS Standard Practice Instructions (SPIs), and applicable Army regulations.
  • Advises supervisor(s) of noncompliance; stop work in imminent danger situations and under conditions of imminent adverse environmental impact; and report actions to supervisor.  Recommend acceptable work practices and ensures their implementation.
  • Ensures dissemination of information on new/revised regulations to supervisors and employees through verbal and written communications and through revisions to programs.
  • Assists in accident investigations and report preparation.
  • Conducts facility safety inspections.
  • Assists in preparing safety reports and presentations as required in accordance with KRS contract deliverables and requirements.
  • Executes other duties as assigned. 
JOB SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
Required: 
  • Refined skills in oral and written communication; English language.
  • Demonstrated effective use of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures to ensure the safety and health of community and workforce personnel. 
  • Knowledge of safety compliance systems and principles, and application of safety protection methods. 
 Desired: 
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma program tools and methodologies and/or Six Sigma Certification.
  • Knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and criteria pertinent to safety compliance and programs covered under the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.  
     
EXPERIENCE (Years):
Required: 
  • Zero (0) years with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health or other Environmental, Safety, and Health related field.
  • OR 2 years of relevant safety and occupational health experience with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Occupational Safety and Health or other Bachelor of Science related field.
  • OR 5 years of safety and occupational health related experience with an Associate degree in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent science related field/coursework.
  • OR 8 years of safety and occupational health compliance-related experience with other related training equivalent to a Bachelor of Science degree.     
Desired: 
  • Bachelors of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health or other Environmental, Safety, and Health related field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant safety and occupational health experience with an emphasis in safety and health related inspections.
EDUCATION:
Required: 
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health or other Environmental, Safety, and Health related field with zero (0) years of experience.
  • OR Bachelor of Arts degree in Occupational Safety and Health or other Bachelor of Science related field with 2 years of relevant safety and occupational health experience.
  • OR Associate degree in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent science related field/coursework with 5 years of safety and occupational health related experience.
  • OR related training equivalent to a Bachelor of Science degree with 8 years of safety and occupational health compliance-related experience. 
 Desired: 
  • Bachelors of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health or other Environmental, Safety, and Health related field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant safety and occupational health experience with an emphasis in safety and health related inspections.
 
OTHER SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Common Access Card (CAC) required to perform job duties.
  • This position is unaccompanied.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required. 
  • Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Kwajalein Atoll.
  • Traveling to Kwajalein Atoll, you are required to have a valid passport in your possession prior to relocation.
  • You must maintain a current passport during your stay on Kwajalein Atoll.
