Supervisor Golf Course

Location: Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for golf course operation and maintenance including but not limited to turf grass and plant material maintenance programs, property/asset management, personnel management, financial management, member relations, scheduling and maintenance of irrigation systems, and compliance of regulatory issues.
  • Reports to the Adult Athletics Director.
  • Supervises maintenance of the golf course including but not limited to greens, tees, fairways and bunkers.
  • Manages repair shop; oversees maintenance of equipment; oversees the care and maintenance of all golf course equipment and tools.
  • Directs and assists the staff on tending to high stress areas on course.
  • Organizes and instructs golf lessons, clinics and other learning opportunities.
  • Schedules, organizes and executes golf tournaments and events throughout the year.
  • Recruits, supervises and retains maintenance staff; conducts employee performance evaluations and exercises disciplinary action.
  • Directs and participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, inspections, and priorities.
  • Oversees staff to ensure company safety protocols are met with 100% compliance.
  • Plans and budgets for additional or replacement capital equipment.
  • Completes proper record keeping, audits and daily cash handling procedures in accordance with company policies.
  • Provides excellent customer service.
  • Supports Country Club operations.
  • Assists with the maintenance of other turf and grass facilities, including but not limited to the Tennis Courts, Softball Fields and Soccer Fields.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communications with KRS management, the Customer, and the community at large; this includes but is not limited to submittal of reports, attendance at staff and other coordination meetings, presentations for Community Activities programs and projects and hosting Distinguished Visitors as required. 
  • Effectively coordinates with external departments for safety, inventory and environmental requirements, and for programs and events as required and/or assigned.
  • Ensures KRS policies, procedures, instructions, and guidelines are followed by Golf Course personnel. 
  • Supervises the collection of recreation-related fees; ensures proper and accurate handling of cash is established and maintained at income generating facilities including but not limited to working cash, deposits, bookkeeping, and security.
  • Surveys and evaluates needs; develops plans and schedules for long-range golf programs, facilities maintenance and improvements, recreation and entertainment programs. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
JOB SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
Required: 
  • Advance computer skills required for financial reporting and control of operations, including use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of management and maintenance of greens, fairways and rough.
  • Knowledge of use and operating standards of equipment and tools used in golf course construction and maintenance work.
  • Skill in recruiting, supervising, training, monitoring, evaluating and motivating personnel.
  • Interpersonal skill to resolve conflict and work with supervisors, employees, members and the general public.
  • Knowledge of the game of golf, golf rules and methods of play.
  • Ability to anticipate personnel, equipment, and material requirements related to golf course maintenance and repair assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead golf lessons, clinics, camps, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize and execute golf tournaments and other golf related events.
  • Knowledge and ability to effectively:
    • Perform maintenance of the golf course (e.g. greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, etc.)
    • Manage repair shop
    • Oversee maintenance of turf equipment
    • Oversee, instruct and supervise maintenance of all golf course equipment and tools.
  • Ability and knowledge to lay out irrigation patterns, drainage patterns, construct tees and/or greens. 
  • Ability to plan, develop, coordinate and direct the provision of a comprehensive Community Activities program and to provide highly responsible professional and technical staff assistance.
  • Ability to work under minimal direction in a team orientated environment.
  • Ability to work with a diverse staff and community.
  • Willingness and ability to work nights and weekends.
  • Strong background in the following aspects of club management: golf operations, teaching, financial, community relations and involvement.
  • Excellent written and oral interpersonal communications skills.
  • Skills to evaluate and resolve complex problems and situations
  • Uncompromising ethics, and a strong sense and sensibility for customer service. 
  • Strong decision making skills and the ability to work independently.
  • High level of interpersonal and organizational skills to provide individual and organizational leadership for the programs, coordinate communications, and resolve personnel issues and conflicts. 
  • Demonstrated skill and ability hiring, developing, and motivating staff is needed along with strong multi-tasking, independent decision-making, and organization abilities. 
  • High level of knowledge of principles and practices of organization, administration, budget and personnel management.
Desired: 
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma program tools and methodologies and/or Six Sigma Certification.
EXPERIENCE (Years):
Required: 
  • 2 years of experience in a golf course supervisory or managerial position, including progressive responsibilities managing golf operations and/or turf management.
  • An equivalent combination of the required education and experience may be considered.    
Desired: 
  • 4 years of experience in golf course operations and a Master's Degree in a related discipline.
 
EDUCATION:
Required: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or related discipline.
  • An equivalent combination of the required education and experience may be considered.
Desired: 
  • Master's Degree in a related discipline.
  • Certificate in Turf Management or related field such as agronomy, horticulture, plant science, or soil science.
OTHER SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Common Access Card (CAC) required to perform job duties.
  • This position is unaccompanied.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
  • Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Kwajalein Atoll.
  • Traveling to Kwajalein Atoll, you  are required to have a valid passport in your possession prior to relocation. 
  • You must maintain a current passport during your stay on Kwajalein Atoll.
  • This is a position of Public Trust.
