Registered Nurse

Location: Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serves as a consistent 12 hour rotating nursing staff member in the inpatient and outpatient departments. Should be able to assume the nursing care of critically ill patients that present to both the inpatient and outpatient departments.
  • Serves as a rotating nurse for the Roi Namur Dispensary.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with hospital and departmental practices that reflect Joint Commission and Quality Improvement Standards and performs all work at a level to meet these standards.
  • Assists with current immunization and allergy protocols.
  • Provides patient care and delegated functions based upon the nursing process and in compliance with the hospital, clinic and Department of Nursing standards of practice.
  • Monitors the patient’s age appropriate behavioral and physiological status.
  • Assists in monitoring and evaluating the age appropriateness and effectiveness of patient care.
  • Is accountable for maintaining and improving own nursing knowledge and skill competence.
  • Supports the hospital’s philosophy, objectives, and goals.
  • Demonstrates awareness of the physiological, developmental, cultural, spiritual and psychosocial needs of patients throughout the life span.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of current pharmaceutical, nursing, and medical terminology.
  • Proficiently and consistently completes accurate, concise, and legible documentation of hospital records. Includes hands on care delivery and telephone patient interactions.
  • Respects and supports patient rights.
  • Promotes and practices positive customer and peer relations.
  • Promotes and practices cost containment for the Medical Department and patient.
  • Fosters constructive relationships as a team member.
  • Maintains a professional approach with confidentiality.
  • Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel.
  • Assists in reviewing and revising policies and procedures. Strong background in computer skills desired.
  • Supports the occupational health department by assisting in the medical surveillance programs, fit for duty and DOT exams.
  • Supports and enforces infection control policies and procedures.
  • Arranges to have needed supplies and equipment on hand for both the Inpatient and Outpatient areas.
JOB SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
Required: 
  • Ability to practice nursing as described by the following definition: “The diagnosis and treatment of human responses to actual or potential health alteration.” Ability to utilize the nursing process in the provision of nursing care including but not limited to administering treatments and medications, interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a plan of care, collaborating with other health care providers and providing education to patients and/or significant others. The successful candidate will be required to pass competencies for this position.
Desired: 
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma program tools and methodologies and/or Six Sigma Certification.    
EXPERIENCE (Years):
Required: 
  • Minimum 2 years recent acute care experience or recent hospital experience in a role where the candidate has a demonstrated ability to manage critical care issues. Diversity of experience is especially valued.   
Desired: 
  • Experience in Occupational Health Clinics and Workers compensation case management.
  • Experience as an Operating Room (OR) nurse with a minimum 2 years OR experience required.
EDUCATION:
Required: 
  • Graduate of an approved accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Current licensure as a Professional Registered Nurse in the US.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
OTHER SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Common Access Card (CAC) required to perform job duties.
  • This position is unaccompanied.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
  • Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Kwajalein Atoll.
  • Traveling to Kwajalein Atoll, you are required to have a valid passport in your possession prior to relocation. You must maintain a current passport during your stay on Kwajalein Atoll.
  • This is a position of Public Trust.
  • Current BCLS Certification.
  • Current ACLS Certification.
  • Additional certifications are desired.
