Hardware Engineer III (Shipboard Site Lead)

Location: Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands

  • This seasoned professional provides support to US Army on Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands; primarily assigned to the mobile Range Safety Ship USNS Worthy; may be responsible for projects or functions; supervision and instruction received may be limited to results expected.
  • Works extended days at sea in close quarters for mission support.
  • Participates in mission planning, preparation, and evaluation of requirements.
  • Operates and maintains the RTS Instrumentation, Telemetry Ground Station and Antennas on the Worthy.
  • Plans and supports upgrades and modernization projects including equipment installation, cabling, testing and documentation.
  • Performs on site data preparation and data transmission.
  • Maintains Plant in Place Drawings and Circuit Layout. 
  • Performs system checkouts, tests, and pre-mission simulations.
  • Operates, maintains and repairs to the component level, all types of telemetry equipment to include but not limited to antenna controls and antennas, analog and digital recorders, receivers, multiplex/demux equipment, strip charts.
  • Maintains documentation records of maintenance performed and mission support logs.
  • Provides on the job training to less experienced professional and/or support personnel for site equipment and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as needed or assigned.
  • Willingness and physical ability to work aboard a ship for extended days at sea in close quarters for mission support.
  • Ability to work effectively with considerable latitude and follow established processes.
  • Complex problem solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of telemetry antennas and ground station equipment.
  • Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Linux and Windows, Computer Networking, Command and Control Software.
  • Willingness and physical ability to climb antenna towers to 50 feet.
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge to perform routine and moderately complex tasks and measurements.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma program tools and methodologies and/or Six Sigma Certification.
  • Knowledge of RF cable and networking fabrication.
  • IRIG Testing methods of telemetry systems.
  • Demonstrated willingness and physical ability to live and work in a shipboard environment.
  • Range operations and/or networking technology.
  • 5 years of experience as an Engineer in Telemetry, Communications, Range Operations or related. 
  • 8 years of experience as an Engineer in Telemetry, Communications, Range Operations or related.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology or related discipline.
  • Climber Certification or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
  • Computer networking certifications such as CCIE, CCNP, JNCIE-ENT, WCNA or CompTIA Network+.
  • Common Access Card (CAC) required to perform job duties.
  • This position is accompanied. 
  • US Citizen is required.
  • Active US DoD Secret clearance is required.
  • Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Kwajalein Atoll.
  • Traveling to Kwajalein Atoll, you and your dependents are required to have a valid passport in your possession prior to relocation. 
  • You and your dependents must maintain a current passport during your stay on Kwajalein Atoll.
