Systems Engineer III

Location: Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs functions (architect, design, build, tasking, scheduling) of senior level engineer.
  • Maintains operational status of all mission critical systems running Red Hat Linux and Windows Server.
  • Performs version build management, installation, patch management and upgrade cycles on RHEL and Windows servers and workstations.
  • Maintains hardware lifecycle by deploying replacement systems in a timely fashion.
  • Supports real time reactive computing systems.
  • Performs server and application monitoring on a daily basis.
  • Performs root cause analysis and resolution for hardware and software issues.
  • Works closely with Software developers and other System Engineers to evaluate and improve application performance.
  • Maintains flexible schedule to meet mission requirements.
  • Performs project studies and coordinates resources to execute project milestones.  
  • Ensures system security by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate enterprise solutions in accordance with Army regulations (AR 25-2).
  • Implements upgrades for site-wide critical services.
  • Creates and maintains user accounts, security group membership and resource mapping.
  • Archives and examines audit logs, performs network scans, and generates Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) checklists to verify compliance.
  • Assists network personnel as necessary to troubleshoot and resolve application issues.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
JOB SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
Required: 
  • Ability and experience designing, engineering, implementing and supporting information systems.
  • Proficient with Group Policy, Active Directory and Linux tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with Storage Area Network (SAN/NAS) and maintenance environments.
  • Demonstrated ability securing systems using Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
  • Willingness and ability to maintain a flexible schedule to meet mission requirements.
  • Ability to perform operating system upgrades including the migration of existing applications.
  • Ability to perform system administration in a high availability, 24x7 production environment.
  • Proficiency with BASH, VI, VBScript or Powershell.
  • Ability to troubleshoot using system monitoring tools.
  • Strong Knowledge of Solarwinds, Windows, RHEL, VMware.
  • Ability to remotely troubleshoot problems across a Wide Area Network (WAN).
  • Knowledge of Open Source Software.
  • Ability to create and maintain user accounts and security groups effectively.
Desired: 
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma program tools and methodologies and/or Six Sigma Certification.
  • Ability to present system recommendations and planning to Senior Level management.   
EXPERIENCE (Years):
Required: 
  • 5 years of server and/or system administration experience with a computer science related bachelor's degree.
  • 7 years of server and/or system administration experience with a computer science related associate's degree may be considered.
  • 9 years of directly related server and/or system administration experience with a High School Diploma may be considered.   
Desired: 
  • 12 years server and/or system administration experience.
EDUCATION:
Required: 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Sciences or related and 5 years of server and/or system administration experience.
  • Associate's Degree in Computer Sciences or related and 7 years of server and/or system administration experience may be considered.
  • High School Diploma and 9 years of directly related server and/or system administration experience may be considered.
  • CompTia Security+ certification or ability to obtain certification prior to employment.
  • Valid Computing Environment certification or the ability to obtain certification prior to employment.
Desired: 
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering or related discipline.
  • CompTia Linux+ certification or LPIC-1 certification.
  • VMWare certification.
  • Microsoft certification.
OTHER SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • This position is accompanied.
  • Common Access Card (CAC) required to perform job duties.
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • US DoD Secret clearance or the ability to obtain one is required.
  • Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Kwajalein Atoll.
  • Traveling to Kwajalein Atoll, you and your dependents are required to have a valid passport in your possession prior to relocation. 
  • You and your dependents must maintain a current passport during your stay on Kwajalein Atoll.
