Hardware Engineer IV

Location: Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands

  • Possesses primary responsibility for VHF and UHF transmitters, subsystems and associated support equipment.
  • Oversees and performs operation and maintenance duties requiring excellent diagnostic skills; participates in improvement and modernization tasks for system performance enhancement and replacement of obsolete components.
  • Routinely leads project team members; coordinates work schedules for field engineers and technicians; coordinates activities with other subsystem engineers (software, receiver, digital).
  • Gains sufficient expertise to act as the site expert and perform all of the duties to ensure mission success without guidance or supervision.
  • Works occasional evening and weekend work hours: the ALTAIR Radar is a highly utilized asset and is required to be operational seven days a week; while infrequent, when failures do occur, the engineering staff is expected to return it to operation in the shortest time possible.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Familiarity with RF transmission and high power electronics, switchgear, analog and digital control hardware and RFI shielding practices.
  • Strong understanding of electrical principles and design.
  • Strong circuit troubleshooting skills.
  • Demonstrated working ability to complete electrical designs.
  • Familiarity with floating ground systems.
  • General knowledge of Analog/RF components such as amplifiers, couplers, hybrids and phase shifters.
  • General software literacy.
  • Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated diagnostic skills including but not limited to ability to effectively use an oscilloscope, a digital voltmeter, an RF power meter and a spectrum analyzer.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma program tools and methodologies and/or Six Sigma Certification.
  • Demonstrated skills in the safe setup and measurements of high voltage DC circuits over 35kV.
  • Demonstrated skills with the general repair and troubleshooting of RF equipment, interlock & control circuitry, RF test equipment and digital systems.
  • Familiarity with software such as RSLinx, RSView, Matlab, SPICE.
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley hardware (PLC-5 and I/O modules).
  • Ability to create test set ups for testing spare analog/digital modules.
  • Vacuum tube knowledge.  
  • 8 years of RF and Radar transmitter experience, including the design of transmitter components.   
  • 10 years RF and system experience.
  • Transmitter and/or Receiver design.
  • Vacuum tube maintenance.
  • High power vacuum tube pulsed VHF, UHF and/or microwave transmitter maintenance.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering discipline. 
  • Associate of Science Degree may be considered if the required skills and knowledge can be strongly documented and experience is 15 years or more.
  • Master of Science in Engineering or a related discipline (such as physics, math).
  • Allen Bradley PLC hardware training.
  • This position is accompanied.
  • Common Access Card (CAC) required to perform job duties.
  • US Citizen is required.
  • US DoD Secret Security clearance or the ability to obtain one is required.
  • Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Kwajalein Atoll.
  • Traveling to Kwajalein Atoll, you and your dependents are required to have a valid passport in your possession prior to relocation. 
  • You and your dependents must maintain a current passport during your stay on Kwajalein Atoll.
