Hardware Engineer I

Location: Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Primary duties include configuring, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting a variety of systems; this includes high power transmitters, satellite communications, telemetry, antennas, facilities, and networks. 
  • Supports mission operations, testing, documenting, and troubleshooting of the electronics, RF, computer, and other related systems. 
  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on systems.
  • Plans and supports upgrades and modernization projects including equipment installation, cabling, testing, and documentation. 
  • Maintains configuration control documentation.
  • Maintains property, equipment calibration, and security accounts.
  • Performs other related duties as required and/or assigned.
JOB SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
Required: 
  • Self-starter with the ability to follow established processes and perform duties with little supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters, RF power meters, and/or network analyzers.
  • Willingness and physical ability to commute by small aircraft and/or marine craft to remote island locations.
  • Willingness and ability to occasionally work aboard a ship in a deep sea environment.
  • English language proficient verbal and writing skills including report preparation.  
  • Physical ability to move equipment and racks.
  • Ability to work well in a team orientated environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Desired: 
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma program tools and methodologies and/or Six Sigma Certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with RF systems such as high power transmitters, satellite communications, telemetry, or related.
  • Skilled at electronics troubleshooting and repair.
  • Demonstrated skill building and/or terminating cables including BNC, N type RF cables, semi-rigid coax, Heliax coax and soldering.
  • Proficient using small power tools such as drills, saws-all, and grinders.
  • Demonstrated skill in one or more of the following areas:  solid-state high-power amplifiers, telemetry systems, satellite communication, spectrum management and/or RF Safety, RF cable assembly and/or termination, servo control systems.
  • Demonstrated ability working with antenna systems.
  • Familiar with configuring routed and switched IP networking equipment.
  • Familiar with Risk Management Framework (RMF), Department of Defense Information Assurance Certification & Accreditation Program (DIACAP).
  • Software programming or SharePoint management.  
EXPERIENCE (Years):
Required: 
  • 1 year of experience working with electronics, RF systems, antennas, and/or computer systems with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • 3 years of directly related experience working with electronics, RF systems, antennas, and/or computer systems with an Associate of Science degree in Engineering or related discipline may be considered.   
Desired: 
  • 5 years related experience working with electronics, RF systems, antennas, and/or computer systems.
  • Navy background working aboard a ship.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work in a flight safety capacity at a missile range.
  • Project Management experience.
EDUCATION:
Required: 
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related discipline and 1 year of experience working with electronics, RF systems, antennas, and/or computer systems.
  • Associate of Science degree in Engineering or related discipline and 3 years of directly related experience working with electronics, RF systems, antennas, and/or computer systems may be considered.
Desired: 
  • Master of Science in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Certified climber.
  • Security+, Network+, CCENT, and/or CCNA. 
OTHER SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Common Access Card (CAC) required to perform job duties.
  • This position is unaccompanied.
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Active US DoD Secret clearance is required.
  • Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Kwajalein Atoll.
  • Traveling to Kwajalein Atoll, you are required to have a valid passport in your possession prior to relocation. You must maintain a current passport during your stay on Kwajalein Atoll.
