Communications Technician III

Location: Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintains electronics and communications equipment and facilities on locations throughout the Kwajalein Atoll.
  • Participates in all operations and tests conducted at the Reagan Test Site (RTS) involving voice, video, and data transport and/or communications within RTS and to various off site locations.
  • Conducts Facility Safety and Environmental Inspections of outer island communication sites.   
  • Operates, repairs, and monitors voice, video, and security intrusion detection systems.
  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on communications equipment using prints, schematics, diagrams, and manuals.
  • Performs mechanical and electrical assembly, wiring, soldering, and repair operations on a variety of electronic components.
  • Operates Test Measurement and Diagnostics Equipment in the performance of maintenance and evaluation of assigned systems.  This includes, but is not limited to, meters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, distortion analyzers, network analyzers, and power meters.
  • Participates and facilitates training to maintain and increase certification and skill levels for self and others.
  • Completes and maintains logs, forms, and records.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
JOB SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
Required: 
  • Ability to manage day to day range communications and maintenance activities and repairs.
  • Basic knowledge of Internet Protocol.
  • Ability to quickly learn unfamiliar  systems for controlling voice, data, video, and fiber-optic transport equipment and systems, intrusion detection systems, and other electro/mechanical systems as assigned.
  • Ability to test and trouble shoot communication systems, circuits, and interfaces using standard test equipment.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Products.
  • Familiarity working with the transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications systems
Desired: 
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma program tools and methodologies and/or Six Sigma Certification.
  • Knowledge of voice data, audio/video transport systems, Synchronous Optical Networking (SONET), Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), communications systems, and Digital Subscriber Line (DSL).
  • Strong computer skills.  
EXPERIENCE (Years):
Required: 
  • 5 years of experience working in Information Systems or Electronics.   
Desired: 
  • Experience working with fiber optic components.
  • Experience working with the military Installation Information Infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Kwajalein Atoll, including the outer islands.
EDUCATION:
Required: 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
Desired: 
  • Associate’s degree in Computer Sciences or Information Services.
  • Technical trade school and/or military training in IP, communications or related discipline.
  • CompTIA Security+ or Net+ certifications.
OTHER SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Common Access Card (CAC) required to perform job duties.
  • This position is unaccompanied.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
  • US DoD Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain one is required.
  • Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Kwajalein Atoll.
  • Traveling to Kwajalein Atoll, you are required to have a valid passport in your possession prior to relocation. You must maintain a current passport during your stay on Kwajalein Atoll.
